A JV boys basketball coach partners with the head coach to focus on overall need of the program, with duties including:
- Training: Developing and implementing training sessions and drills to improve players' skills, physical fitness, and overall performance
- Practice and games: Leading practices and games, and ensuring players meet scheduled responsibilities
- Player development: Helping players develop their skills, sportsmanship, integrity, and character
- Communication: Communicating with parents and guardians about team schedules, practices, and games
- Team environment: Collaborating with other coaches and staff to create a positive and supportive team environment
- Safety: Ensuring the safety and well-being of all athletes
- Equipment: Maintaining and cleaning athletic equipment and uniforms
Some skills and qualifications that are important for a basketball coach include:
- A strong understanding of the fundamentals of basketball.
- Leadership and communication skills
- Experience with game analysis and using statistics and video analysis tools
All new hired coaches will need to complete the following prior to employment:
- NFHS Certification.
- First Aid Card.
- District Fingerprinting/Criminal Check.
- Completion of OSAA Concussion Test.
- Completion of OSAA Steroid Program.
- Completion of School District and OSAA paperwork.
- Completion of OSAA Heat Acclimatization and Heat Illness Prevention.
- Completion of All District Requirements and employment forms.
